Hi All,

I've got a real problem here and would appreciate some help.

The 4WD/2WD selector on my B7000 is stuck real solid. I think the machine is stuck in 2WD and it is impossible to push the lever down to the 4WD position.I've tried with the machine stationary and moving, engine on and off. It won't budge.

So any ideas how....

1. I can prove it's stuck in 2WD

2. Possible reasons why the selector won't budge

3. What to look for if I take the gearbox apart?

I've also noticed that the Diff. pedal doesn't move much when pressed either. Seems real solid and moves a couple of mm with foot pressure. Could this be related in some way? Or is the Diff pedal supposed to be like this?

Anyway - could do with some real help here folks :D

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked to see if there is something physical keeping the engagement levers from moving?

A rock, dirt clod, wrench, or who knows what could be causing a problem. It would be nice to find such an easy fix.

Sounds like the selector and the diff lock are seizing where they enter the transmission case. I've encountered that issue a few times with other 4WD Kubota tractors where the selectors have not been moved in a real long time.

Make use of a good penetrant and see if you can introduce some to that bushing area where the selector shafts enter the transmission case.

It may take more than a couple of applications to free it up. Kubota uses a real stiff single ball bearing to maintain the selectors position. The ball is located on the backside of the selectors and if that ball seizes, that selector is damn near impossible to move.
Thanks for this SDV. Spot on...as usual! :D The selector is starting to move and I can feel the universal joint engaging / disengaging. As you say, that is one mighty big steel ball bearing in the selector handle.

Still cannot get the Diff Pedal to budge!

Might have to get back to you again on this one.

Thanks again.

i had the same problem with mine, only mine was stuck in 4wd and nothing would budge it. just keep sprayin it with a good pennitrating oil and it should break loose. i sprayed mine once in the morning and once at night, and after a week it finally broke loose. ih harvester makes a awsome penitrating oil that starts out as a foam, its the best ive ever used. as for your diff petal try rocking the tractor back and forth while pressing down, thats how i got mine down.

My diff lock pedal was stuck in lock position. I remove the linkage, soaked the shaft where it enters the transmission with penetrating oil and used a pair of pliers on the arm to get it wiggling. Once it started to move it freed up all the way pretty quick. Have you checked your transmission for water? Mine had a lot in it from previous owners neglect, and I'm sure contributed to the seize-up.

Now if I could just figure out a way to free up my frozen throttle pedal-to-throttle lever mechanism...

Sorted....

I thought this was going to be a major problem, but I removed the diff. linkage, added plenty of penetrant, got a piece of wood and a lump hammer and set about it for a couple of hours. It eventually loosened up. :)

Works a treat now.

Thanks for the advice folks.
