New to tractor repair. I'll start off by saying, I got this L245dt for free this summer. Freeze plugs were blown out as well as cracked thermostat housing flange on motor. Pulled timing cover off and replaced that and freeze plugs. New radiator and some new hoses for the loader and it was running great.
Havent had the chance to use it much and finally last weekend got around to changing fluids and filters. Easy enough, thought all was well until I started the tractor. Started it, shut it down and checked eng. oil. Started back up and loader not working after a minute of throttle and trying to lift bucket oil blew all over the floor out of vent tube from top left side of motor... shut it down, after a few choice words and head scratching I pull the dipstick and hydraulic oil pours out.... and a few more shoots and darn its
Anything helps! Thanks

The seals go bad, or the front of the pump gets oil starved, and gets hot. The drive of the pumps are driven off the timing cam/sprocket. This seal when it blows dumps into the timing cover/crankcase. Really its about the only common way for hydraulic fluid to enter the engine crankcase.

Gotchya. O well could be worse I suppose. So replace the seal and refill fluids and should be good?

There may be several different options for that seal based on tractor serial number. You can try just the one that matches your serial numbers but that didn’t work out for me so I had to order all of them to get the correct one for the pump. The pump must have been changed out sometime.

There are some o rings on the pump case and at inlet and outlet pipes that should be replaced when replacing the seal.

Pour some fluid into the pump as you put it on the tractor and it should pull fluid from the transmission when you start the tractor.

Good to know thanks! I believe mine is the original kayaba pump. Had it off to do the freeze plugs behind it already and replaced the suction and return pipe o rings then. I would assume they would be ok but I'll get extra just in case.
Now should I flush the oil out of the crank with some diesel and turn it by hand? Or just fill it up and go?

Just drain and use new engine oil. Use inexpensive oil. Run a couple of hours and then change filter and engine oil again.

You would be fine just draining and replacing the filter. I just like to get it cleaned out a little bit more.
