Does anyone know how to check gearbox fluid level? Do I use the vent plug opening?

According to the KUBOTA K-420 Tiller manual, the gearbox oil should be checked and topped off if necessary, see attached document.

Yes, I have the exact manual. KUBOTA emailed it to me as a PDF file. I optimized the file so it can be searched (OCR) word searched. Also I emailed the tiller file to the web site, www.kubotabooks.com, three days ago so everyone can benefit from it.

Unfortunately the manual only mentions the gearbox oil in a paragraph with no pictures.

Look over the gearbox for a removable plug (like a 3/8 NPT recessed plug), I would expect to be near the top of the gear box on one of the sides. You could make a couple of pictures of the gear box if you want another set of eyes on it.

Reply to CountryBumkin:

Is the pink arrow pointing towards the filler pug?

Attached is a photo, the top of the gear case cover. The orange arrow I believe is pointing to the vent valve and the pink arrow is pointing to the 3/8" allen head screw plug, suspected filler plug. I attempted to remove the suspected "plug" with a 1/2" impact wrench but didn't budge. I want to confirm this is the correct plug before I put more effort into loosing the suspected plug.

I can't tell from the picture. Is that photo showing the side of the gear box or the top?

Usually vent is on the top and fill plug is on the side (and fill plug wouldn't be at the very top because oil fill level is typically a little below the top to allow for fluid expansion as fluid heats up).
