Hi guys, I have a bit of a leak on the front axle, I took the gear case cover with the bevel gear off, took the Snap ring retaining gear off, the gear case according to the internet should slide down easily with a few taps, except it does not. I have been figting it for the whole morining.

Am I missing something? Should I hit harder? is there something else....

p.s.
The divided collar was laying inside when I took the gear-case/bevel-gear off, is that suppose to fall out that easy...?

Kinda need to know what model equipt we’re discussing….

When I did this job on my M4700DT I found another internal snap-ring (Circlip) which was not immediately noticed. Removing that …the case came right off. You might vist the Messicks online parts diagrams for Your Model to see all the listed parts.

Hey, Sorry I missed writing what it is, I thought I wrote it in the title. It is an STW 40,

I ended up putting some pressure with two pry-bars and banged until it slid off/// It was really stuck...

Messicks does not have this model in their listing...
