Today i changed the UDT fluid in the front axle of my 2001 L3000DT. The owners manual says it holds 6.3 qts. After refilling with 5 qts. it showed full on the fill plug dipstick. Drove it around for about 15 minutes and then parked it for about an hour. Rechecked and added a little more than another half quart. Other than keeping an eye on it the next few uses should i do anything else? Any information is much appreciated.

That sounds good to me. When I changed mine I parked it with a bit of a back slope, filled, and later still had to add a bit.

Don't forget the grease fitting(s) on the front axle mount. Both 2 and 4WD have at least one, if not two. I'm not familiar with an L3000 but assume you have them.

Sounds about right, it's not unusual to need to top it off after using it a few hours. I often find our tractors won't take as much fluid as the manual states.

You may want to consider 80w-90 gear oil at the next change. Especially if you use the tractor mainly in the warmer months.

That's what we replace ours with at the first change.

Same here.

I like the increased viscosity over SUDT for the gears and I've convinced myself that it is less likely to leak at the oil seals.

Thank You too for the explanations. I had a doubt on the type of oil to use because it seems, following the stickers on the tractor (Aste a 155), that i had to use only UDT fluid on everything but the motor. I heard some times that is better to use 8ow90 on front axle and steering box. Here I found the confirmation.
