Afternoon everyone.

My b7300 is having an issue, initially I thought maybe bottom end was letting go on me but with 633 hours not seeing how that’s possible.

The front main seal leaks and I’ve been on top of oil since noticing, the other day when working with it it started tapping loud, still ran fine but I shut down and checked oil, it was at a safe level just above the first mark on the stick, I refilled and started again, when I retstarted it it squeaked like something was getting ready to blow so I shut down.

This morning I went out to check it out and move to level ground in case I need to split the tractor. It started and ran fine no noise until about 5 min into warm up tapping started again, any ideas from anyone on what this may be?

No loss of power or funny smoking so not sure where to start. I don’t want to split if it is something I can repair from above.

Thank you.

Start with the most basic things.

Check valve clearances.

Remove fan belt once the tractor is warm and making the sound you hear to rule out anything being driven by the fan. This test should not go on too long.

While engine is running and sounding funny, loosen the injector line to one cylinder at a time. Loosening the line will prevent the injector from firing.

Checking oil pressure with a gauge.

Anyone have what the valves should be set at? I've got a B7300 that needs the valves adjusted.

Well I appreciate the insight, I drained the oil last night and found shavings, not a lot but enough to tell me my rod bearings are shot. Hoping the crank didn’t take too much of a beating. Will be splitting in the next few days.

I always have my dealer set my overhead and spray test the injectors at the same time but then mine require removal of a lot of stuff (accessories) in the way of the overhead (getting the valve cover off) and the loader frame must be removed on mine (right hand) to access the timing marks on the flywheel. Tapping when at operating temp is indicative of loose valve clearance.
