I am researching chains for rear tires only on my L606. dealer says BEFORE i can consider rear chains i must install spacers b/c the clearance between rims and frame is not wide enough and chains will bind, is this true? and if so, i would then need to remove tires, install spacers and then reinstall tires onto spacers at recommended torque? Thank you for any assistance

Depending on what rims you have, you may be able to adjust the spacing with the wheel center/rim and not need spacers. Post a picture of the wheels.

If your wheels look like these, you can simply swap the tire/rim side to side to gain width. Leave the center in place and remove the 6 bolts on rim.

Thanks for your speedy reply! ok, i know tires have never been swapped. Ill look into this when i return home next week-on vacation and was thinking about chains over coffee this morning. I’m thinking on installing ladder chains. I won’t be driving down payroll. It’s simply side Road, but I’ll be needing to clear about a mile. There are some smaller hills, but there are two larger hills/ hence the reason for the chains. I have a front commercial blower on there.. I can also take a picture next week and post. Thank you. Have a great weekend. Regan

If you are using ladder chains on R4's you will likely find the chains walking and causing problems with clearance.

I currently have double ladder chains but have kept them hanging on the wall since installing tire studs. These have helped with my winter tire traction on ice and on paved roads and my primary use is for snow blowing. I can drive through my fields but once the snow I'm driving through is over my axels the studs lose effectiveness and chains are better.

I'm on the edge of the snow belt in Ontario. If you need to drive through deep snow through fields get a set of euro style diamond chains with studs. These hold on tighter and walk less.

That’s a really good idea on the Euros style diamond chains with studs snow belt is heavy here and I know studs on their own will not be sufficient with climbing up the hills and snow often up to the axles. I’ll definitely need to consider your option. Thank you for that. I could post a picture next week I’m just away on holidays now thank you, Regan.

Not sure if your clearance is like mine being a 6060.

But if you look to the inside of the rear tires, there is probably less than a quarter of an inch from the inside sidewall to the frame..... At least on mine.

I often wonder how long you got to catch a low rear tire before it'll shred itself.... its THAT close!

I bet @S-G-R could tell you..... he's probably still climbing all around his LOL!!!

Haha yes i have had a few replies and i will switch out the tires to see first what type of clearance I have and then run from there if I need space or so be it but I probably won’t after I switch out we’ll see stay tuned!

As a note, ladder chains seem to like rattling dentures clean out (depending), Euro run "pretty smooth." Euro also can help defend against sliding sideways, which may or not be important to you. Euro cost "a pretty bit more" and may be worth it based on your needs.

You are RIGHT ON THE MONEY.! Another person replied same thing to purchase the euro diamond studded I totally agree. I don’t wanna have to do this a second time it’s worth the money and I’m dealing with a lot of snow up here studs on there own are not good enough for me needs. Thank you for replying. Everyone is awesome on this site, so helpful.! Regan
