My BX2380 starter keeps trying to engage after it is running.

I took starter to repair shop and was told nothing wrong with it
Test with test light and have very faint light compared to when switch is engaged to starter. It is on all the time at connection to starter . Wiggled wire nothing changes. Starter does not try to start when connection from switch is disconnected.
Tried new switch and does not fix.
Any ideas.

There is a relay involved that is failing.

See this thread and read the last post, be sure you know which relay you need to replace is the moral of that thread.

How old and hours on it? Just checking as I have a 3 year old BX1880 with 210 hours.

Well that didn't solve it. Not sure where to go from here.

See if removing the relay cuts the power to the starter solenoid wire. That way you know that the fix is related to the relay.

Getting a wiring diagram (if you don’t have one) will help you a lot.

If removing the relay cuts the power going to the starter then you will need to evaluate how the relay works and why power is passing through it. Two of the relay wires are the power feed circuit when the relay closes that circuit, two are the firing circuit to close the relay (one is probably a ground).

I assume the relay is a plug in so it is difficult to detach and attach single wires one at a time. So you may need to get some alligator clip test leads to connect between the actual relay and the plug.

I suggest that you remove the relay and connect it back in with the alligator clips. Then verify that you have voltage at the starter solenoid wire. Then disconnect the grounding wire and see if that cuts power to the starter solenoid. If it does then that says the circuit that closes the relay is HOT all the time and there is a problem in that circuit. That may be a problem with the control computer sending power when it isn’t supposed to.

If there is still power to the starter solenoid wire when the relay is not grounded then there is a relay problem or something else that is passing power through the relay to the starter solenoid wire.

Hopefully I have gotten this correct but here is a common relay circuit that may help you figure it out

It appears to be starter relay located on ignition side. While taking off the motor turned over with key in off postion. Hopefully this is it have new relay ordered.
Thanks for help and suggestions.
