i have bx22oo i am having issues with the front drive shaft popping out of the front universeil joint. it is not shearing the shear pin. when i am moving dirt and the front axle tilts up or down the shaft pops out. i replaced the universel joint, its still doing the same thing.

would it be the king pin that the front end on pivots on be the issue?

Is the shaft from the transmission coming out of the yoke on the front u-joint, or the u-joint coming off the front axle pinion?
I just changed the front u-joint on my BX2230, and there is a retaining pin through the shaft and rear yoke of the u-joint, and one also through the front yoke and the axle pinion shaft, so there shouldn't be any way for it to come apart at the front of the drive shaft.

Got a picture maybe?

thank you for your reply and the parts break down

the shaft coming from transmission has no end play. i will remove that plastic guard and verify that lower u-joint is in good shape.

I have a BX2200 and replaced the rear u-joint on the front driveshaft a year or two ago.

My recollection is that the front U-joint is held in place with TWO roll pins, not one.
Any movement needed is handled by the rear U-joint, that is held in place only at one side by a roll pin.

Are you sure your issue is not being caused by a missing/broken roll pin on the front U-Joint? It should be fixed in place by a roll pin on each side of the U-joint...

Edit: Looking at WhiteTiger's posted parts diagram, two pins are shown, but my assumption they are roll pins may be in error...

i checked the lower u-joint, there are 2 pins. it has about 1/8 play, the shaft going into the front is tight. the shaft going back to transmission is also tight. the shaft only protrudes into upper u-joint about 3/4 inch. if the right side of the axel drops down the shaft falls right out

which brings me back to original thought, that it may be the front axel pivot/king pin.

monday i am going to stop by kubota and pick there brain

the 2 pins are just that with washer and cotter pins

If the shaft is only going into the rear u-joint, that is the problem. It should go in at least a couple of inches.
I doubt the pivot pin could be worn enough to let the axle shift enough to pull it out of the u-joint.
If you have a loader on the tractor, try raising the front axle a few inches off the ground and see if you can move the front axle back and forth, if not, use a jack of some type.
In normal use, if the axle pivots to the limits, that will stretch the drive shaft almost an inch, I would imagine.
Just as a wild guess, the end of the shaft isn't broken off and still in the slip yoke on the rear u-joint is it? That would explain the problem.

You originally said the drive shaft was pulling out of the front U-joint, but it appears you meant the front of the rear U-joint! 😳

There was a thread here not too long ago where a guy with a BX replaced the rear U-joint and afterwards had a problem similar to yours. Turned out he was sent a front U-joint, rather than the correct longer rear U-joint.

The rear U-joint is physically longer than the front U-joint. By at least a half inch if I remember right.

Is there any chance you have the wrong U joint on the back end of the drive shaft? There’s enough difference in length between them that you can easily see if they are the same or not if you measure them. They should be different.

Does the bearing (#230) have the snap rings (#220) in place?

i have lifted the front end with the and there little movement. the shaft only goes into the upper u-joint 3/4 inch.

so where do i go from here?
Did you measure the u-joints as I suggested, or read that thread I linked to in the above post?

Since you are looking for guidance if I were you I would.

(The correct back U-joint is is one inch longer on the side that is not pinned, the side which the driveshaft splines slide in)

henro, that's what happened with me, i reinstalled the old upper u-joint which is longer. what they gave me was the lower u-joint. every thing is back to normal.

i want to thank all for you input on this matter.
