A few days ago I changed the oil on my tractor and used a K&N filter on it. I kept checking the oil, and it seems as if it is a little less than 1/2 way on the dipstick. So naturally I did some Googling, and found that many owners add 3 1/2 quarts.

So that being said... what do I do? Add more oil until it reaches the top hole on the dip stick, or just do as the manual states?

3 1/2 quarts versus 2.6 quarts seems like a huge difference to me.

Also the manual states that as long as it is between the two holes on the dipstick, the oil level is fine.

It probably makes no difference... just makes me need to waste good oil to fill it all the way to that top dot.

I spoke with my Kubota dealer, and they said as long as it's within those two marks it don't matter. They said if you really want to put it up to the top notch, it doesn't hurt, and it might make the oil last a little bit longer, as there is more oil in the pan. They said 3 is fine if you don't want to collect oil 1/2 filled bottles of oil. So I filled it up. If I recall correctly, it was up to the top notch when I picked it up, and that is what they filled it up to.

To fill it to the top mark, it took exactly 3.5 quarts.

So the range 2.6 quarts to 3.5 quarts... anywhere in that range is fine.
