My BX 1850 will start fine, when I try to engage deck mower it almost imediatly will shut off, like you are not sitting on the seat. Also will shut off when you try to go forward or reverse with the foot pedal. If you lightly forward or reverse foot control it will creep along, but further depression with kill engine. Any ideas?

Here are two copies from my factory manual and a shot of the OPC timer (Operator presence Control right behind the seat. I think you can copy these if needed.

You see several switches are involved. It may not be just one.

When no mower is engaged via PTO, does it run OK?

From this it would appear to me that your seat switch is bad and acts like you are standing up, or that circuit is open elsewhere, because the PTO or the Pedal switches are then open and the current must go thru the seat switch. If the two (PTO and pedal)l are closed, meaning they are in neutral, or no PTO in use, your seat switch can open and things still run.

Trying to go forward or back takes that pedal switch into an open position and your seat switch then should be closed, but is open or a bad circuit there.

In other words if you want to get off the tractor when it is running, the pedal switch has to be closed, in neutral, and no PTO should be operating. Get off the seat and it still runs.
