The belt on my tractor is adjusted as far as possible, and is showing some cracks and lots of wear. I have bought a new belt but am somewhat overwhelmed by the seeming complexity of the job to replace it. I like to think that I am a competent tinkerer, but maybe this is too much for me to take on. Can anyone tell me how to do this, it is a L3450.

i have a new to me l3450 and have just replaced the water pump To replace the fan belt you must disconnect the shaft that runs from the fan to the water pump pulley. there are four 12mm bolts in the flange that connect the two parts of the fan shaft. two bolts face the front and two face the back of the tractor. to remove all four bolts the fan shaft must be moved forward so find the bracket that holds the fan shaft in place near the fan. remove the three 10mm bolts that hold this bracket to the frame and slide the fan shaft forward about an inch. Now you can finish removing the four 12 mm bolts that are in the fllange that hold the two parts of the shaft together. with the shaft separated, you can loosen the alternator, and remove the old fan belt and put on the new.
