Dang, I aint heard of that one. Not up on all the current saws though either.

Mine was right at $500 last year from our local ace in Crystal Springs.

The boss got a ms661 there a couple years ago that was over $1k. It was as long as our lunch table to. He ended up downsizing the bar pretty quick. A bit much to handle.
Long story, but I was in need of a saw years ago.

Local manager of Auto Tire/Repair/Stihl dealer privately bought a used Stihl 046 Magnum from a guy. I bought it for $325. 4.7 ci and ~ 6hp with a 15# powerhead.

Probably 20 years old at the time, with little use but poorly maintained.

Needed some minor maintenance TLC, but has been a great saw. Grew up with a Stihl 056 Super.

This is my 046 next to my MS211. World of difference, even compared to larger “homeowner” saws.

Given my age, I tend to grab the 211 most of the time….😉

The 046 became the 460, then 461/462. 3rd largest saw Stihl made behind the 6xx and 8xx models.

I kind of doubt the MS462 will be around much longer. Their 400 and 500i are the newest and greatest. The 500i is fuel injected.

They still make a 662 (?) and 882 (?). I think I saw both on the shelf the other day also.

Wish I had looked at the prices of the big saws, but betting their in the $2k-2.5k range now....

The best chainsaw that I ever owned was a McCullough with a 16" bar. I paid $110 for it at K-Mart in 1984. That thing started on the second or third pull every time. I cut about a thousand cords of firewood with it before I gave it to my little brother when I bought the Sthil. He still has it and won't part with it.

Like many, we started burning wood during the Fuel Crisis of the mid-'70's.

First saw was a McCulloch. Don't recall model, but it was small.

Sometimes it ran great.

Others, you needed the proper moon phase, etc. for the friggin thing to start/run at all.

I added a top handle when I added a work platform for the forks on the MX. I wish I would have bought the top handle years ago….it can be wielded it like a saber and control it very well with one hand. (I don’t understand at all why Jason from fri 13th did not have a pair of them holstered to be honest with you.

I would add another (or replace) a top handle before I would replace my old farm boss. If in the market go demo one. I believe from what I have gathered you may not be too far from Hudson, they might demo one or I believe the logging show is roughly August (I think it is at or near Booneville)…there are some good deals to be had up your way at the logging show if you have cash.

This is the place I was referring to…they are really good people and i have only positive experiences with them in person and over the phone…

Never ran one, but I hear a good top-handle arborist saw is hard to beat for some work.

Been years, but I went to the Woodmen's Field Days in Boonville a couple/few times.

Didn't pan out but had an offer to test a new-model Shindaiwa chainsaw one year. I was running their biggest saw at the time (4.1 ci) cutting Spruce Pulpwood, and they came out with a larger model.
