How can I purge the air out of the water separator?

pump hand pump on the top of screw-on fuel filter to refill bowl & purge air from bowl

The air needs to be expelled through the injection pump.

What I do us close the petcock on the fuel bowl and let the lift pump suck it down and then with the bleed knob open on the pump (top), I turn the petcock back on. Works for me,
