Brownells Customer,
As you're likely aware The Department of Defense Trade Control Office (DDTC) has issued contradictory and confusing guidance regarding a gunsmith's/gunmaker's need to register for ITAR compliance. The DDTC's guidance can be found in its entirety by clicking here.
Unfortunately, we cannot provide legal advice. However, Brownells is working alongside the NRA and NSSF to vigorously fight this regulatory overreach. Additionally, we are actively talking to legislators about the immediate need to denounce and retract this directive that is a clear affront to the Second Amendment and small businesses.
Until we have definitive answers, we encourage you to contact the DDTC response team at (202) 663-1282 or by email at DDTCResponseTeam@state.gov and ask them to clarify who should register since the guidance is contradictory.
Furthermore, we encourage you to reach out to your U.S. Congressmen and U.S. Senators to voice your concerns.
To view the NSSF's recommended courses of action, click here.
We are standing united with you and will do everything within our power to stop the unilateral, anti-firearm actions of this administration.
Very Best,
Pete & Frank Brownell
