2015 BX25DLB with 60 inch mid PTO driven mower deck.

Mid PTO hesitant or will only intermittently engage to turn mower deck blades.

Here is what I did so far:

1. Pulled deck off, checked all pulleys, belt and blades. Checked gearbox. Oil was changed recently in gearbox. It looks fine. Everything is clean and greased.
2. Checked wiring harness. Replaced PTO safety switch because initially the PTO would not engage unless I wiggled the PTO engagement handle or started spinning the PTO by hand.
3. Mid PTO turns freely when not engaged or selected.
4. Mid PTO and Rear PTO turn when engaged without implements attached
5. Seat safety switch works fine
6. Changed hydraulic fluid and filter, cleaned strainer. It all looked great.
7. Checked all adjustments on mower deck
8. Checked levers for PTO engagement and selection, cleaned and lubricated. They move freely.

I owned this tractor for 5 years and always maintain it per dealership or myself using OEM filters and fluids. Never had any issues before this year with mower deck.

at a loss here. I feel I checked the wiring, mechanical levers, pulleys, belt, universal joint, mid and rear PTO, mower deck blades, etc. but there is something else going on.

Again, issue is getting on tractor, putting PTO lever down to turn on with mower deck attached. If I wiggle the deck or start spinning the PTO by hand with my son in the seat, it will take off and work. Otherwise, it acts like it does not want to engage. I thought it was an issue with mower deck but now I am leaning back toward the tractor, rear end, clutch pack or something? It just is not making sense. Help is appreciated. Thank you.

I can not help with the tractor issue, but might help in another way by suggesting it is not a good idea to be turning the PTO by hand on a tractor that is running.

Very risky, especially in your case where you know it could start turning on its own at any time...

Stay safe.
