when 3 point arms get up on my M9540 they will not go back down. If I loosen the safety valve on top of rock shaft housing it will release the pressure and they lower. if i start it and raise the lever they go up and stay. you can hear it keep pumping and howls so a valve of some kind is not opening to release the pressure. But i am not sure what to check but the way it acts i am pretty sure a valve is stuck somewhere if you have an idea what to check please let me know.
Check to make sure your relief valve is working properly and that the spring is not broken or bad.. go in your manual and look up where the relief valve is located for the 3 point hitch.. it also could be that your lever is not disengaging when you pull up on the 3 point hitch.. you say you can hear the hydraulics continuing to make noise once the 3 point is at the top AFTER you release the lever?
Let me know, there is also a knob/adjustment for the pressure in which the 3 point hitch will lower that you can adjust based by the weight of the inplament.. is this the “safety valve” you are referring to? If not then check it because if it is cranked all the way down then your 3 point hitch is not going to want to lower on its own weight..
Also stand on the 3 point hitch and see if that helps it lower or not.. this could help us figure out what’s happening here.
