I've never checked the screen without draining the fluid....

is it possible to do so? any tips?

I figure maybe a small bucket and a rubber cork to stuff in the hole for a bit?

John - same here.

Honestly don't think it's easily done. It's gonna wanna come out of there quick.

Betting I'd make a mess...I'm good at that, and 3+ gallons of fluid would be a BIG mess....

I change filters without any issues, but not sure I'd try the screen.

For what it's worth, I've changed fluid 3 times. First time the screen had some small millings in it...2 times since it's been clean. Others have had quite a bit of sealant in the screen, but not sure if it recurs after the first change.

Easy to do with minimal oil loss if you've got a #5 tapered rubber plug standing by. I did it this spring on my BX based on info I got here on OTT, and don't think I lost more than 4 - 5 oz. of oil. Changed the HST filter at the same time, and it took less than a quart of SUDT2 to bring the dipstick back to full. YMMV.

This was I believe my third time checking the screen. I did find 2 or 3 very small metal slivers, so the screen was doing its job. I bought the rubber plug at my local hardware store for next to nothing.

Connect shop vac to hole fill port while you clean screen. Found that trick online and it worked for my 50 hour service. Does get some oil shop vac hose.

I've seen the plug and shop vac methods. Great for you guys when it works.

I just know I make big messes. If there's a way to frig it up, I seem to find it....[emoji3]
