I ran a 42" on a BX23S, but I keep my loader on while running it. But, configured as I have it, the tailwheel never leaves the ground (long top link, tailwheel set so the deck slants forward).
I can confirm this. Fully extended, with enough threads left to insert a cotter pin - 16.5". Fully compressed, both threaded ends touching - 13.25". Inside to inside of the turnbuckle is 3.25".
I own a B7500 and as it happens, I have the 3pt apart as I am repainting it. I can measure the individual components this evening, but I suppose you'll be home by then. If I was in your position, I'd be looking at a set of telescoping units.
