Go back and reread the removal instructions. It takes me 10 minutes to remove the operator's platform and fender, making removing the hoses and wiring to the sender a walk in the park. I remove nearly a dozen tanks and clean them every season. :)

I suspect the fuel lift pump is very weak. Do you have the tank full of fuel, or did you add a couple of gallons?

If you remove and clean the fuel tank, it is foolish not to blow out the supply line while you're there.:)
