    Truck / trailer questions

A well specced trailer with good brakes on both axles will substantially reduce how much it pushes your truck around. Yes, if you get a sway on a 3/4 ton will control it better. But for occasional towing, and if you're loading sensibly, and you're not relying on the truck to stop the trailer...

    Decision Overload

I figured I needed to have another go. Apparently I wasn't obvious enough the first time. :)

    Decision Overload

Sure you do. A tractor that isn't in the appropriate hours bracket is clearly worth less. Look how many conversations have been had on here "that's too few hours for its age, clearly something is wrong with it". Putting more hours on a tractor increases its value. It's a duty that tractor owners...

    Decision Overload

Looks mint. I hope you're going to be very very happy, and expect you will be. Now you need to put some hours on it - at the age it is it really needs extra hours to get to where it should be. Strict regime of 16 hours every weekend will go some way to remedy things.

    Decision Overload

Live PTO doesn't really matter with an HST. L3200 is basically the same tractor as an L2501, but pre-emissions rules. They detuned it to reduce the HP when the emissions rules came in, so that it went under 26HP (which was a threshold where the emissions rules became more stringent). There...

How does HST "speed control pedal" control engine rpm?

The other end of the understanding that took me a while to notice. The hand throttle is setting desired RPM, not a throttle opening. The governor actually controls throttle opening (well, I guess injectors), and it's working to keep at the exact RPMs that you set. So actually neither of the...

Hydraulic Drive pedal will not return to neutral position.

Unlikely to need to be replaced. It is relatively common, and usually comes down to grease, adjusting one or more of the springs or rods (depending on how exactly it works on your machine), and cleaning dirt and gunk that may be stopping it freely returning. On my old BX I consistently had this...

    Decision Overload

I was told this in NZ. The dealer I brought from just needed an address within his region. My brother's address worked fine.

    Decision Overload

Late to the party. Of the list you provide, the L2502 is the buy. Not much more expensive, and new. Second for me is the B2601 with backhoe. For random jobs that you don't even know need doing that's a good implement. When people say "tractors don't depreciate like cars" what they mean is that...

    Deck Adjustment

The BX has a suspended deck, only the LX has a ground following deck where the wheels hold the height. As you say, the BX wheels are anti-scalping only. I don't think the OP is saying that his deck occasionally touches the ground (which the anti-scalping wheels would stop). He's saying his deck...

Advice on first real tractor for retirement.

If you're not mowing, don't want a cab, don't need a PTO, the L2502 is best value for money. LX is a nicer machine, and B2601 is for those who are a bit more financing constrained or have to park in a particular sized spot (like me).

B2601 Belly mower blades spinning on spindles

Ah, there you go. Didn't even know they were cup washers, they look kinda flat. That should be an easy enough fix. And if they have lost their cup through the various things I've done to them (like spinning them till they're on fire hot, so they lose their temper perhaps), I can just get new...

    L3800 l3901 l2502

Much of the fun of a new (to you) machine is learning all these things. When I first got mine taking the loader or mower off was a full escapade. Now it's 5 minutes or less, and I know most of the things that can go wrong (through doing them all one by one). In particular, I know to never take...

Diesel engine sucked up water! Now what?

When I loan equipment, I accept the risk that it comes back busted. When I let inexperienced people drive equipment on my property (usually because it's fun to do stuff with family), I accept the risk they break it. Many people would offer to repair or replace if they break stuff. But they're...

    Broken Oil Drain Plug

If it were mine, I'd bite the bullet and take the oil pan off. Look inside it, work out what you can do to get the plug out and fix it. Get a new oil pan if you need to. All the options people are providing are good, but most of them feel like quite a bit of work, and all of them come with a...

B2601 Belly mower blades spinning on spindles

I've always given my B2601 mower a pretty hard time - I mow some rough pasture sometimes. That can overload the mower, which I did again the other day. I had a big clump of grass got stuck, which then caused one of the blades to spin on the spindle (accompanied with some smoke). I've dismantled...

    L3800 l3901 l2502

SSQA. Pull the pins, turn the levers, angle the loader curl so it pops off. Reverse it to put it on. All available on YouTube in various places, but it's reasonably self explanatory once you play with it.

    L3800 l3901 l2502

Looks fantastic. Well done to jump on it. You're going to be super happy. Remember that you can tip a tractor over on flat ground if you aren't careful - ballast is your friend, so is going slowly when you have a load in the loader.

    B2150 no start problem?

You could use booster cables to eliminate weak battery as a cause, and tow start (if it's not HST) to eliminate aged starter as a cause. Seems to me it's either not cranking fast enough, or it's not getting fuel as NIW says. NIW is usually right, so start with his ideas.

    Good Deal - l2501

L2501 way better than a BX for much more than a couple of acres, and definitely if you're in any kind of woods. That price seems pretty good, and as described it sounds like a well maintained machine that'd be hard to regret.
