Another L3800 starting issue

Thanks for the replies fellas . . . FWIW I mis-stated the hours, she has 291 hrs on the clock. Went down there with the battery out of the 1987 Porsche . . . new battery last year. First thing I did was install the old battery w/o cleaning anything . . . jiggled the speed control lever...

    Another L3800 starting issue

2012 L3800 HST, 160 hrs. I keep up with ALL service intervals so she is all greased/lubed up. Tractor stays in the barn in the winter, start it up every month or so for a 1/2 hour. Gets used quite a bit in the good weather, at least a couple times a week. So . . last summer a couple times when...

    Homesteading Adventures with Bella and my L3800 . . . .

Thanks D2Cat . . . The tower company owns just enough to cover their "footprint" at the site. They put in the access road and the power up to the top of the hill. I own the access road, they have an easement for access. "Off-Grid capable" is our plan. I know and understand cell sites so I know...

    Homesteading Adventures with Bella and my L3800 . . . .

Like I said above we own 54 acres in the town of Marshall, NY . . about 15 miles south of Utica. I am working on getting a homestead up and running. When I purchased this land 5 years ago it had not been worked for 15-20 years so the meadows and fields were pretty much taken over with brush and...

    Homesteading Adventures with Bella and my L3800 . . . .

This is Bella: I decided to start this thread to share my Homesteading experiences with the fine folks here. As I was preparing for retirement (Telcom Engineer; Public Safety (911) Communications and Cell Site Construction Mgr) I purchased 54 acres in Central NY to build an off-grid ~capable~...

Clearing land for a garden and orchard

BCrouse, I have really enjoyed reading this thread seeing your progress on your land in PA. I own 54 acres in the town of Marshall, NY . . about 15 miles south of Utica. I am working on getting a homestead up and running. When I purchased this land 5 years ago it had not been worked for 15-20...

Big tillers on up to 25hp pics and experiences please

FWIW, I am running a 74" Kuhn (6 tines/8 stations . . ) behind an L3800 HST (38 HP/30 PTO HP). The soil here in Central New Yorkistan has a lot of clay. There is no margin. It works the tractor pretty hard. I may be removing a set of tines. I have a few virgin plots to till this week, will...

1970cs . . this problem (when it occurs) sounds just as you described . . .

    L3800 HST Power Steering Issue

steering operates but with excessive effort, no binding, just manual steering effort. With tractor not moving, i.e.: at rest, normally power steering allows wheel to turn easily, like in your car or truck. When this problem occurs, the wheels will not turn until I start the tractor moving in...

    Howard Rotavator 300

If you have lighter soil and you can get it for a good price then I would jump on it. Howard shares the top of the tiller mountain with Sicma (Phoenix) and Kuhn, with Landpride close behind. FWIW, the soil here in Central New Yorkistan is heavy with a lot of clay in it.

Yes on both Ray. Filters and fluids changes at 50 hrs.

    Howard Rotavator 300

Howard is considered an excellent tiller here in the US. According to the specs here: http://www.iowafarmequipment.com/howard-tractor-pto-rotary-tillers.html#300BU the model you are considering requires 35-40 PTO HP . . so it might be too much for the L3901 . . . someone smarter than me will...

    L3800 HST Power Steering Issue

Hello Fellas . . . L3800 with aprox 170hrs on it. This has happened a couple times before but was intermittent . . . Started her up today and had no power steering while stationary . . seemed OK when moving . . .. . and after a few moments of operating it was OK. Has done this before a few...

    Sea Foam

I started using Seafoam and Stabil in all my small gasoline engines along with non-ethanol fuel about 5 years ago. Before that I was rebuilding carburetors and fuel systems every year or so. Can't speak to using it in a diesel engine. I run Stanadyne in my diesel fuel.

    L3800 Rotary Cutter? BH15 or RCR1860?

Hmm, can't imagine why . . I sharpen my blades once a year and mig weld up the shackles that are excessively worn . . . . I maintain about 10 acres with it. This is what I am working with . . . [/IMG]

    L3800 Rotary Cutter? BH15 or RCR1860?

What D2cat said. I have been hit by debris thrown out from under a rotary cutter. My dad had a piece of wood puncture the rear of this left Bicep that had to be surgically removed. I would never run a rotary cutter without an expanded metal shield between me and the cutter. NEVER have had such...

    Rotary Mower For L3560

Check out the Caroni 73" Flail Mower . . . uses considerably less HP than a rotary cutter and does 90% of what a rotary cutter will do . . although be prepared for more maintenance (replacing shackles and blades) if you are brush hogging VS mowing. . . . I have had both and will never go back to...
