Can someone check a tractor in Longview, TX?

Ya, I hear what you're saying, but thats a lot of tractor for 5900, even if I have to put more into it. What I've been seeing on CL are all in the $8-9K range. Moot subject anyway, looks like they sold it. Not sure which place it was at, I found it on a tractor website. Thanks for the reply!

Can someone check a tractor in Longview, TX?

Hi! As the title says, I'm looking for someone willing to check out a Kubota L3010 HST that's for sale in Longview, TX. I'd be willing to make it worth their while, especially if you can give me an idea of what might be wrong with it. The ad says it has "engine issues". I called them up, and...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Hate to dig up such an old post, but I finally have an update. I ran a wet/dry compression test, and got 240-260 dry, and 380-400 wet. A full rebuild kit with sleeves was around $700, and I figured at least another couple hundred for machine work, not to mention all the extra time. I found a...

    Loader hydraulics question

Thanks Wolfman! I knew I could count on you! I did think about a prop valve, but I just don't think the situation will come often enough to warrant all the extra plumbing. Any idea on the PSI of that system? Also, will standard compression "T" fittings be the easiest way to tap in? Thanks again!!

    Loader hydraulics question

Hi Guys! OK, so I'd like to replace the loader valve on the L219 loader on my B7100. The factory one is very sloppy, and sticks slightly in the down position. I'd also like to use the loader hydraulics for a power steering system. My questions are: 1) Is it possible to use the loader hydraulics...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Seriously considering taking the old head in and having it tested for cracks. If good, put it back on. Tired of working on this d**n tractor. I got stuff to do!

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Well, I haven't done the wet test yet, but now there's a new symptom. it doesn't want to shut off with the throttle pull. It does shut off, but I have to pull it as far as it will go, and it really tries to stay running after I pull up on it. Before, it died without even pulling it all the way...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Ya, it was KB. That stinks! I even did some research, and most of what I found on them was good. I ordered a replacement steering shaft from them, and it failed. They sent me a new one, no questions asked. Didn't even want the old one back. So what did you do? If that's my problem, I'll...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Ya, it's number 5 in your pic that I was referring to, as far as a shim.

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Thanks, Wolfman! I didn't swap parts between the injectors, but I probably swapped injectors between cylinders. Thanks for letting me know that the injector shims weren't affected by the injector pump. I set, then double checked the valves, and I'm confident that they are set right, at .008"...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

D2Cat, I'm referring to the shims on the inside of the injector, under the spring.I don't know if those can be used to kind of fine tune the injectors. Repair, Thanks for the smoke reference, and the suggestions as to what may be wrong. I guess it's time to get it to a shop, I'm not even gonna...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

D2Cat, ya, I had called a tractor shop and a diesel shop nearby, neither could test them. Closest place, according to them, was about an hour away. Not too far, but I decided to just replace them anyway. Just got it all back together, but still no change. In fact, now it has picked up a nasty...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

You sound pretty confident in that, and I'm sure you know a ton more than me. I just like to be sure of something before I commit to spending money. My "financial advisor" is already complaining about the $500-ish for the head and gasket set, and still no usable tractor. Thinking to get a whole...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Ya, that's where I got my head from, as well. It looks pretty good, but I did notice that some of the coolant passage openings are noticeably smaller than the stock head. Sorry to hear the head was cracked, but at least you figured out your issue, and will soon be back on the road. Funny you...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Never had the injector pump out, nor ever adjusted it. I thought about the injectors, too, but why did it run fine before?

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Well, I ran a straight edge over it, and I didn't see any high or low spots, and it felt smooth to the touch. Jeff, I didn't see your post until after I got it back together, but I do know that a very small part of that erosion is under the gasket, but I don't know how much. I installed the new...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Well, I finally got time to get back out to the shop and check the deck. I can not see or feel any lip or ridge at all. Everything seems to be flat. I am a bit worried about whether the head gasket will seal in the area around that bit of missing material in the cylinder wall. Although, I have...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

OK all, I decided just to bite the bullet, and replace the head. I got a new one, loaded with valves, from Kumar brothers for $429 through fleabay. I've had good luck with their parts, and when I did have a problem, they made it right without a single issue. The old head was going to need new...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Rbargeron: Valves and seats seem fine. The exhaust valve face is a little concave, but all are clean and shiny all the way around. Great point on the increased chamber volume at TDC, I hadn't thought of that. I was forgetting that diesels have such small chambers. The amount of missing material...

    Cylinder wall and head "erosion"?

Interesting, Mark. Did it do it after it was already warmed up, and u shut it off for a few minutes? Mine does smoke quite a bit at cold startup, but I just figured that was because the engine was cold. Warm restarts are pretty well smoke free.
