Hi. I am a complete novice so I am sorry for asking what may be a silly few questions.

I have just purchased an old BX2200 compact tractor for small jobs around the house.

I can see on the right control near the seat are two levers which I think are Remote Cylinder Retreat and Extend. Can I ask what these do exactly?

The photo attached shows an example

It looks like someone may have added a rear remotes to the tractor. I don't believe they came standard, see the first picture below without the levers. They may have been installed by the dealer as an option when purchased or aftermarket by the previous owner.

If you have anything like the second picture (in pairs either 2, 4, 6, etc. connections) you have rear remotes. I don't believe the owners manual or the WSM covers these. I haven't read either to see if they do.

Look at the top link, third picture, if you have hoses going to it you have an hydraulic top link which is a good thing to have.

Let us know what you find, especially if you have none of the above.

Yes, you have two "rear remotes"!

You can plug hoses into them to run hydraulic cylinders ... The most common are a "top link" and a "side link" (sometimes called "top & tilt")

These allow you to adjust the three point hitch to various angles, both front to back and side to side with pulling a lever!

Correct, if you have a manually adjustable top link, you would not be able to use those levers ... But you can still use the three point as it is.

If you at some time choose to buy a hydraulic top link, the expensive part is already done ... You would just need the hydraulic top link and hoses ...

As Shawn T. W says you have two remotes (4 connections), think supply and return for each.

Since you don't have a top/tilt set up they're good for any rear attachment that might use hydraulics. Not sure how much snow you get in central UK but you could use it for a snow blower for turning the Shute and adjusting the deflector or a tiller or flail mower with offset, or a back blade to adjust the angle left and right.

You don't need to use all 4 at once, just two at a time (in pairs). Very handy to have.

Thank you for your advice, sadly not much snow in my area (wish there was !!)
