Thoughts of a Mini Excavator

I have a small pcs of property, only 3 acres. I have a new LX2620, suits me just fine after a BX.
Been having thoughts on a mini excavator. Not all that much work for one that I have to have it.
BUT..., enough boulders to move, stumps half rotted, alot of here and there. Don't want to
spend a fortune, but would like something new with a warranty.
Someone mentioned Typhon Terror, or a Ripper. This will be a long dragged out think!

Why not throw a BH77 on that new LX2620? My B2650HSD is basically the same tractor. With my BH77 attached all of those boulders and stumps chores like you mentioned are fun hours in the tractor seat!

It's not a yuge surprise, but I love my 77.

I would buy one again in a "heart beat" if I had to do it again.

BUT a Mini Ex would be WAY COOL too

I never looked for/priced out one though, so I am not much help there.

5 years ago I paid ~11k for my 77 installed, but thats neither "here nor there" I suppose.


What brands are on your radar at the moment?

And whats the "budget"?

I went through the same thing over a year ago and after much research bought a Huayee SHY20. It is a dealer sold series with the best support of the offshore brands. They are built with higher quality components and now have a nationwide dealer network. Kubota diesel engine with warranty through Kubota and other parts stocked in Georgia so no wait for parts from China. I am extremely happy with mine and have had no problems with it. Was half the price of a comparable Kubota with the same specs. This is what it looks like. About 3800 pounds with just under 8 ft dig depth, expandable tracks to fit through gates, and 2 speed drives. I would definitely buy it again and recommend a mini over a backhoe for most jobs around the house.
Definitely avoid the cheap auction ones if you want a machine that's ready to run when delivered.

I'd definitely consider a mini-ex over a backhoe. Used, I think you can come close enough to the same price as the add on backhoe. However, I use rear implements almost all of the time I use my tractor.

Go buy a R series kubota. Not cheap though.

Not sure how common they are in the USA, down here most rental fleets are full of them and have been for years - I take that to mean that they're very durable. Yanmar engine I think.

Today I used my mini ex to cut into the hill to give me and additional 7 feet of space for backing out of the garage. I had a dumpster in the way so had to dig it from the bottom and from the top.
It would been a pain in the ass using a backhoe with all the moves I had to make.

Nothing beats an excavator for pick and move.
