B7200 with 1640 loader spool valve

I have a b7200 with a 1640 loader. It has intermittent hydraulic problems. Most of the time everything works fine but suddenly I will notice the bucket creeping down or all functions are lost. My three point hitch is the same most of the time it’s great but suddenly it struggles or stops lifting.

I have deduced that it most be my spool valve control. Can anyone help me find an aftermarket replacement? I’ve looked on eBay and summit hydraulics but can’t determine which one would work.

Whats the basis for your deduction?

Plenty of replacement valves but I think you need to do a bit more investigation before condemning the valve.

All the hydraulics are experiencing intermittent faults. At times none of them work but they return to normal after rocking the controls a bit.

Sometimes the loader arms do not respond, sometimes the bucket curls forward under load. Sometimes the three point lift stops working but a few wiggles on the loader controls gets it back to work.

most of the time the loader and 3ph work fine but it’s very frustrating when they just stop working without any other notice or symptom. I thought at first it might be my 3ph piston o ring that needed help but after noticing the issue is affecting all hydraulic functions my best guess is the control valve.

That does sound like it might be the loader valve BUT how?

It might be a stuck inlet relief on the loader valve but how does jiggling the joy stick fix it? Next time it happens take the cap off the tank filler and see if fluid is flowing.

It mighf be a stuck spool but that loader function would then be active. Is the bucket always drooping when it happens? Any other cylinders moving?

It might be a bad pump or main relief and jiggling the joystick is a total red herring.

Unless you really want a new control valve I would do some more investigation before replacing it.

Unfortunately, I’ve reached my limit as far as diagnosis. It’s time for me to start throwing money at the problem. Would you happen to be able to recommend a replacement valve or supplier that could help?

I would recommend you remove and clean the hydraulic oil strainer. If that does not fix your problem we can talk valves.

You’re absolutely right about the strainer. Most of my issues resolved and the loader now has true power. It feels like a new machine again.

My only remaining problem is the 3 point hitch still showing some creep and sometimes weak performance. I’ve already order the parts to replace the rear piston o ring and seals. They were inexpensive at the dealership. Will crack into that next weekend.

I am also replacing my shifter boot which is badly cracked and another fella mentioned water intrusion can happen through the shifter boot.
