I use the 72” box blade for knocking down heavy soil and rock in smaller areas and out in the woods. I think its capable of pulling/ pushing more weight. I like to keep it on the rear for counter weight, general knock down of piles/ humps and I keep my reciever bolted there to move a trailer if necessary. Even use it to back a log or limbs out of the way when bushogging, etc.
The grade scraper has no equal on finish smoothing and grading. I use the 84” model on my L6060 and love it.

My box blade spends more hours used as ballast/counter weight than for grading. You could probably rig up something to easily hang more weight if needed. Nicer than when I use to have a 8ft blade hanging from the 3pt for a little added mass.

I have the Land Pride GS1572 grader scraper and maintain a 3/4 mile community lane behind a L3130. Don't use the scarifier blades because it just uproots the base rocks. Haven't used a box blade but my impression the box scraper would require more HP because it carries the material where as the grader scraper allows the excess material to flow over. I have found that if it is real compacted it works better to break up the material by going backwards and letting the weight of the implement work. To do that though requires purchasing another blade to install on the back otherwise you are just using the framework and not a replaceable/reversible blade. We had 170 yards of 3/4 minus delivered last summer and and that gave me something to work with.

Hi All,

I recently posted asking opinions on land planes and got great responses. I have a gravel road that gets packed down turning the winter freeze/thaw cycles. I need something to dig up the gravel and level some bumps. I was looking at a 4 ft land plane for my 23 hp BX machine. A friend suggested looking at a 4 ft box blade saying it would do the same thing as a land plane but be more versatile for other things. I have no experience with either implement and would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks
