Working on my snowblower (what better time than middle of a heatwave) as it was surging at idle last winter.

going to take the idle jet out and what is usually the idle adjust screw doesn't seem to even screw into the carburetor, and its holding this little black thing that I've found online is called a "spacer" in.

Anyone ever encounter one of these yet? I assume its needed, and I counted the turns out of the screw holding it in, but not sure it matters as the screw just seems to go into and out of a piece of metal that is part of the carb body.

Just wondering what the deal with this thing is, and make sure its not just there for shipping or something, and never got removed.

The "spacer" thing I am unfamiliar with - so everything else I say may be incorrect.

But most small engine carbs do not have an idle screw that screws into the carb for mixture adjustment, they just push on the throttle linkage to change how far the throttle can close. Maybe it pushes on a something still on the blower?

Pulling the fuel bowl off and cleaning the main jet might work for your issue...

Iv dont know about "spacer" but typically you remove the screw holding it
down "black one with cross" and then you pull out the pilot jet under it.

That's what I'm used to, so I was surprised to see this black thing sitting on top of the jet. It's not really centered on the screw either. I was wondering if it's like a shipping block.

I found a video online though for a generator with the same carb and they talk about removing it and then replacing it.

Guess I'll leave it as is and see if cleaning the jet resolves the issue.

To me, it looks purpose made for that carburetor. If I we're cleaning that carb I would take it apart, clean it, and put it back together just the way I found it. That is probably the best way to stay out of trouble when cleaning carburetors with lots of small parts.

Just a “heads up”, those mini-carbs are all over Flea-Bay and Amazon for something like 20 bucks or so.

You gotta kind of pay attention to the description, and it’s sort of a “crap-shoot”, but so far I have had “OK’ish” luck with them…..

For my “fat fingers” , carbs are “No Bueno”………….. ;) (y)
