Does anyone have experience using a spike seeder? I would like to get dutch white clover established in my lawn which is under 2 acres and alfalfa in a similar sized patch behind my lawn. A slit seeder would probably be better for the lawn and a no till 3 point drill would be better for the piece behind it, but I'd rather not be tied to a rental schedule.

I don't own either but here's my thoughts.

Spike seeders cost less and can be used for over-seeding and aerating as need in the future.

No-tills seem to be quite pricey and once your happy and done with this one project what do you do with that piece of equipment? If you can find a good deal on a used one and then sell it for what you paid then maybe it's an option to consider.

How do you think it would work on grass that only gets mowed every year or 2? I could mow it before I plant and scuff it with a harrow disk. If I got a deal on a no till drill I'd keep it and do food plots with it. I currently broadcast that and run over it with a cultipacker.
Broadcast didn't work very well on established sod last time I tried
