I picked up an older JD lawn tractor that is in pretty good shape but needs some maintenance. One of the issues is a leak at the transaxle oil filter cap. There is a chip taken out of the lower case where the filter cap screws into the case. The case is aluminum and the cap is plastic.
What would be good to fill in and seal this crack?
Is JB Weld a good option?

Yep. A fat o-ring is what i’d try.

I think either an o-ring or possibly copper crush washer, like used on “banjo bolts” MIGHT work if you could find a properly sized one.

Although I would start off by carefully “blending” that out with a "jewlers file” first.

Worst case scenario, you might try sealing it with some sort of epoxy, then using a “Vacuum sucker” to do the oil changes from now on.

Thats what I use for my boat so I don’t ever have to remove the cowling to access the drain plug.

The one I have works quite well.

Used a similar unit on jet skis for years, and it was quite handy.

Cap has an O-ring. Oil is leaking past the o-ring at the chip.
I would rather not seal it permanently; this is not the drain. This is where the filter goes.

Oh Sh!t I got busted. But I did disclose in my initial post that the initials of the tractor are JD.
I figured I would ask here because of the wealth and years of information you guys have.
I still love my Kubota more 💘
