OK, I passed up a deal on a new 26 Silverado with a 3.0 duramax, kinda glad I did now. But now I have been made an offer for the same truck with the 2.7 turbomax. My Silverado is only 10 years old with the 5.3 and other than some wear items no problems. I tried researching the pros and cons for the 2.7 and one guy says it is the best thing since sliced bread, and the next guy says its junk. I know the older ones have some issues, soanyone have a 2.7 and want to share anything about it ?

I don't have one, but most of the newer turbos from all brands have issues.

Meanwhile, the 5.3 is considered to be one of the better ones other than burning oil if you use very low viscosity.

I'd just do a few internet searches and visit the brand forums.

The problem with new GM trucks is not the engine. It’s the transmissions.

Keep your Silverado. (My son’s ‘2025 Silverado has been waiting at the dealer now 5 months for transmission parts under warranty. )

The only turbocharged engines I have ever owed were C15 Caterpillars, won't ever own a turboed tiny little gas engine. Too many problems can occur boosting little engines.
Keep the 5.3 until it dies.

Same with the Ford 10 speeds. TSB after TSB.

I've owned three cars with gas engines and turbos and loved them, well, the German ones at least. I had pair of Audi Allroads with 2.7L twin turbo engines and a Subaru Forester 2.0L single turbo. The Audis were the best cars I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of cars. Zero engine issues and zero turbo issues in over 100K miles in both Audis. Come to think of it, with the tractors and M-1078, I've owned/own three cars, four trucks and three tractors with turbos, and since the Audis had two turbos each that makes for twelve turbos in all and not a single problem with any of them.

I owned a Ford Thunderbird SC for a while too. That was a fun car with the supercharger.

Another thread where a sample of one equates to all samples are bad.

The 5.3 in my bud's GMC pickup was a victim of the variable displacement technology a couple months ago. $12G later it's back on the road.

When I enter the VIN of my F-450 into Ford's Recall Support webpage I only get the following:

Trailer module reprogramming
Date: 2026-03-18
Campaign: 26C10/26V104

Powertrain control module pcm software update
Date: ?
Campaign: 26E01

I'll call and set up an appointment to get these "campaigns" completed. No big deal.

My 2022 Ranger is very temperamental since new and the date range of my build has several TSB but they have to catch it acting up to do anything other then resetting the software. Randomly bangs down from 3rd or 4th after stopping feeling like you have been hit in the ass. The light duty 10 speeds are junk in my book. Bad CDF drums, trashcan cases, valve bodies and clutches are now chewing up the new cases. Also the engine makes the oil level go up between changes at about 1000 miles. They say it's normal for these small turbo engines. After 6 previous new Fords with no issues it's the last one for me. Glad I bought the 8 year zero deductible factory warranty.

Just curious as to why you don’t like the 3.0 Duramax? I know of the belt issue at 150k, but other than that I’m under the impression it’s a solid engine.

I just checked the app on my phone for Zilla, and it said the recall for mine was issued in March 2026. I rarely look at the app. I guess it wasn’t figured out for the 26s at least not at my born on date.

I wonder will they have to actually come and take the vehicle into the shop or can it be done remotely? (I would think the dealer would want to check/verify function after the update, maybe?)

my Son has the 3.0 Duramax and has been a great truck for what he uses it for. he tows a 24 ft travel trailer occasionally , he sees 33 mpg on the hwy if he doesn't have the camper.

My 2023 F250 does those recall updates while it was sitting in my driveway. The ECM update just occurred last night and was notified this morning when I started up the truck. Screenshot_20260416_101616_Ford.jpg

Bit the bullet last week...sold our 2015 Suburban, 5.3L with 221,000 trouble-free miles and replaced it with 2026 Tahoe, 5.3L, Z71, Max Trailering packages.
Added J&L Oil Separator/Catch can and Range Technology DFM/Auto Start-Stop disabler...

Hope we can get similar performance & reliability from this one...and OMDV (Our Mileage Doesn't Vary!)_
