What is the little box called you can plug in to stop going from 4 to 8 cylinders ?

AFM Disabler?

Or similar name if I remember right.

I drove my 2017 truck in Manual mode and 5th gear.

Took out the 4/8 cylinder issue. I think Tow/haul switch ON might do same thing?

My current GMC 2500 HD with 6.6 doesn’t have that feature, but fuel efficiency isn’t stellar either…

Not really familiar with GM products but I thought I've seen AFM deactivation devices that simply plug into the ODBII port.

There may be other shortcuts (like putting in tow/haul mode).

I wish I knew of a method for deleting Hemi MDS on my wife's new ride. I know that there are delete kits but I'd rather just be able to turn it off with a scan tool.

We just picked up this "cop car" for her last week...

All Durangos built after sept or august 18th 2025 are hemi powered. Yay MOPAR!

GM calls it DOD for displacement on demand. Lots of lifter issues with this system and it’s tied to the oil quality. I’m not going to start an oil debate here…sorry.

I bought the Range Technologies AFM disabler for my Tahoe that simply plugs into the OBD2 port. Simple, which is the way I like it.

I used the Range disabler on the 2018 Silverado, worked for me. The 2026 Sierra uses a different disabler which also shuts off the start-stop feature. This installs on the computer by removing the left front wheel, the older ones just plug into the diagnostic port under the dash. You can also have someone flash the computer to delete the afm. Lots of issues with this system. The 2027 models are coming without the afm and a 5.7 v8. The HD diesels will not use DEF in 2027. Some of the afm issues come from oil. I had one customer tell me his son in law was using 15w40 in his that had lots of miles and it worked well.

Nope. No etorque and no A.S.S.

The leftover V6 models all have A.S.S.
