I have been working on a Woods Finish mower.
I have researched it and found that it was one of the first of the RM59 series. It was unit 2470
Off the assembly line, Serial number is 3670, the first 1200 numbers were not used on the RM59s. I only paid $150 for it but I will have probably $1500 in it! Had my son in law, replace or repair any rusted parts and areas on
the deck. He made the shoes from scratch as they were completely rusted away. He sand blasted it and powder coated it. I have been searching for parts, i. e., all new hardware, new
bearings, races, U-joints and Cotter pins,York keys. Oh, I almost forgot, new decals, WOODS and RM59 the same as Original. I have the old original ID tag that has the Model and Serial numbers. I have found a local shop that is doing a quote and example for me, they want $20 to make it, it will be made on a plastic type plate that they say will be exterior grade material. I have also found a fellow on EBAY that has provided a proof of his work. I will make a decision on which one after I get his estimate for making and shipping. I’m sure the shipping should not be more than a envelope and postage. I will post a few pictures of what I have done so far. The reason I decided to rehab it is, when you buy used, you really don’t know what you have. After I am done, I will know what I have! Around this area here in Eastern North Carolina, we cut grass a lot and for probably 8 months of the year, so mowers are a premium here and even a used one in decent condition is over $1500, but is it still a good deal. Only time will tell unless you rehab it, ground up. If anyone wants any information on where I sourced my parts, let me know. I will tell you that I DID NOT buy from any of the online tractor or mower parts companies. The reason is THEIR prices are just ridiculous! When they want in most cases more than double the price on parts, well I just don’t think I will shop there unless it’s something I can not find elsewhere and in most cases, I have been able to find the exact same parts that they sell, for much less. Just have to do some research and in some cases buy locally and then online suppliers of the same parts.
Enough said!

I am continuing my work on the rehab project of the Woods RM59-1 finish mower. I have received and installed some additional safety
decals. I have also finished the installation of the anti-scalping roller system. I also made
and installed grass shoots for both sides of my mower deck. I have posted several pictures of the work that I have done. I posted the roller brackets and all thread I used, the initial roller brackets wasn’t low enough so I added two more so it would work better. I also made a safety shield for the PTO shaft and the large belt wheel. Hope this will help others in their work to maintain their mower.
I did make a $134 mistake! I was pressing out the old hardware from one of the blade spindles and YES, I broke it. So I have now ordered from one of the online parts retail stores! Was the only place I could find a replacement hub for the blade.

Did a little more work on the mower project today! Finally got the 3 blade spindles and blades installed on the deck today, sure hope I never have to replace any of them again. Got the ID plate installed today and some safety stickers on the deck. Well tomorrow I will be putting the belt on and securing the PTO safety covers and then the test.
Hopefully all the time, effort and money I have invested into it will pay off at the end!
I hope this project will help others who may be in need of a little help. Thanks again to everyone that helped during my journey to rehab an old Woods RM59-1 Finish Mower. I have to say that I did not believe that it would take the time and money I have spent on doing it. I
don’t usually buy something used without going through it first before I use it because I hate to have problems with it. And as the saying goes
“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!” So I hope I will have a “treasure” and not “trash”!
