Out blowing an 8” snowfall this morning when I felt the dreaded flat tire “wobble”
Crap. Hobble 300’. BAck to the garage to try to air it up…no go…goes flat immediately. Okay…lower the outriggers lift the back end up and start taking off lug boys/bolts…2 won’t budge so get the torch and apply heat.
That worked. Holy moly the rear tires (loaded) are freakin heavy!
I somehow muscled it into the truck bed and off to my dealer. Asked abut a repair and the parts guy said let’s look at it…no go sidewalls all dry rotted/cracked…ok, his machine has treated me very well for 13 years plus…time for new tires and rims. Baby getting new shoes NOT LOADED this time! $800 + but worth it in my book! 😊

If you have some time, you can save a lot of money by having the sales department order them through Kubota's Whole Goods. This is where the dealers get their tires. I would ask if they can remove the liquid ballast from the old tires and reinstall it in your new tires. You will miss using the tractor without having ballast in the rear. My new tires don't have ballast, and I noticed the difference yesterday while snowblowing.

Not an issue with mine as I leave the BH on all year long. I blew snow today and I was fine . Thanks for the advice though! Over the years my valve stems failed and I believe it was whatever liquid was loaded into the tires ..,.anyways, if I NEED to, there are many YT vids showing how to load them yourself!😊

The OEM turf tires that came with my 2019 BX23S are showing signs of sidewall cracking, whereas the BX22 (2003) that came with turf tires was still crack-free in 2019 when I sold the tractor. I did have to replace the rubber valve stems after about 5 years, but that was a simple task using a tire bead breaker with the tire lying on the concrete. I replaced the rubber stems with metal stems, and aside from the effort to lift the tires to get them vertical again, it was a simple repair. I replaced my turf tires with agriculture bar tires, and they are not loaded. I can tell the difference when pushing snow; the loaded tires gripped better. I will be loading the bar tires this spring.

I was of the opinion that turfs were better for plowing snow because of the larger contact patch. Time will tell as we are (hopefully) on the downside of winter here in central NH…so far so good good! With my steep ddriveway situation, my snow clearing process consists of a 2 tier approach where (with deeper snow) I clear my steep part by blowing the snow downhill for 15 feet, reverse back up to the top, move over for the next swipe, then repeat can’t blow the snow uphill at all as there is no steering control as the blower seeks its own path. Once back on the flat, I simply blow the rest of my 500’ driveway by working the total length which usually takes 2 full swipes (back and forth then one cleanup swipe for leftover stuff.

When I plowed snow with my 1st CJ-5 , I was conned into 'fat, wider' tires from the original GY Suburbanites. BIG mistake ! Lost a LOT of traction and grrrip. Tall skinny tires with tread did a LOT better than the wider ones.
As for no steering, take less snow ! Instead of a full width, only take 1/2 or so. I've used a 22hp riding mower with 44" BERCO blower for decades and it steers fine IF I don't take full loads. Turfs of course WITH chains on the rears. Without chains, useless as teets on a bull.

Sorry, just realized you were talking about a riding mower tractor! YES! Chains needed on that! I was talking about my 4x4 Kubota running turfs without chains…
Nope…haven’t used chains for last 2 winters. I’m have some but took a chance mostly because I used to cut trails through my property for dog walks but since she passed just driveways and one path to my lower fields…turfs have been fine naked. Remember now I have a backhoe mounted all year round…
