Time to step it up. Amazon had a good price on a 58 gal transfer tank with an electric pump this week. Should be in capacity of the FEL to lift it when full. Seeing that it lifted my 6’ land plane I’m looking forward to a new fuel experience. Once full I will have 108 gal capacity on hand. Still need to properly install the handle with some teflon tape

That's the way to go. I have 106 gallon and 58 gallon JDI fuel tanks currently sitting on pallets in the aluminum trailer. The last time I filled up one of the tractors, I rigged up a DeWalt battery which is easier than some other alternatives, but I do need to figure out a more convenient way to use the numerous tool batteries that I have on hand.

I love those things, but I'd rather have it in a 30g size. I settles on the FloFast 15g setup for my needs.
I'm heading up the ALCAN Highway next year with a friend to go on a Caribou hunt so I think I'll be bringing both fuel tanks. The F-450 has a 48 gallon tank, so combined with 164 gallons in two tanks I should have a range of around 3,000 miles. That could come in handy out there, not to mention the possibility of buying fuel at a cheaper price i.e. hedging in futures.

The bigger JDI tank has a spot for a DEF tank as well, so I might need to look into adding that accessory, or taking the F-250 instead.

I have a 30 gal Arksen tank with a hand pump. Fits good in tight spaces but not good for loading up and hauling to a gas station so I’m left with the 5 gal transfer jugs to fill it up.

I'm cheap!

Once I have time I plan to assemble the 55 gallon barrel and filter, hose, build a cradle and pallet, plus a elevated dolly for it, gravity flow works out of a 5 gallon jug, don't see why it won't work out of a 55 gallon barrel ...

My SCUT should be able to lift it out of my pickup bed ...

I hope to set the pallet on the dolly inside of the garage so I can wheel it around in the insulated garage, dolly height should work to fuel the SCUT, will need to pick it up with the SCUT to fill the CUT with the fuel tank filler on top of the hood ... SCUT doesn't fit in the garage without a pain in the backside lowering of the ROPS, only ever done it once, never again, stupid system!!!

Works fine. Most farmers here have a heating oil tank sitting high on scary looking concrete block pedestals. The delivery truck has a pump anyway to get it up. Don't forget venting the barrel.

I was cheap for the first five years of tractor ownership, but then it occurred to me that the cost of a nice fuel storage and dispensing system pales in comparison to the cost of the fuel that will go into and out of it over the years. Admittedly, when I had the BX I rarely had to put diesel in it but that changed when I upgraded to bigger cabbed tractors that see a lot more use. We all have different ideas as to how we justify the convenience or the pleasure that comes from using well thought out tools or equipment that usually cost more.

I wanted something that was weatherproof, lockable, stable, easy to move around, and that would sit nicely in the bed of my truck or on a trailer for road trips, or when doing tractor related jobs away from home. For those who are only looking for a better refueling experience at home there are plenty of easy and cheap solutions.

Reviving the dead.
Now that I have two diesel machines and expect to use 5X the fuel in past years, I want to step up the game. Currently, a single steel 5 gallon JustRite. Never put more than three gallons in it, which lasts me six months. But now with a new diesel mower in the group, I expect to use a gallon or so a week, probably 40 gallons a year. Still small time but...
What I'd like:
  1. Aluminum can that can hold 30 to 50 gallons
  2. Wheels would be nice but I can 'build that' if needed.
  3. Electric (12V) would be nice but I can hand crank as well, no gravity setups.
  4. Must have excellent filtration
  5. Fuel gauge
  6. Hopefully, fully filled, I'll be able to lift it from my pickup with the FEL (using straps) on my BX25D, I do also have a hoist if needed.
Buy once, never regret.

Thats a great little pump.
I have the same one mounted inside my ROTH oil tank enclosure. (165 gal)
I have a 12v batt tender pigtail on the tractor for power.

If I only need to fill a 5 gal can I walk out there with my Dewalt gizmo.

I took an old Dewalt battery charger and gutted it. I wired it to a tender pigtail.
works great.

Hmmmm this can might work for me....

Stainless steel
30 gallons
Lifting strap
Sight level gauge

Just not sure about the fill cap, looks like an after thought snap on and not a screw drown seal.

Adding a filter would not be a problem. Converting to electric also simple.....

Either you copied me or I copied you. 😂 I know I got the idea from someone here. I do want to get away from the alligator clips so am looking for a good solution that will allow me to use alligator clips when I need them, but also reduce the chances of creating a short via some elegant connectors.

I had no luck finding an appropriate /matching female connector for the Dewalt battery.... It's probably a proprietary design. I tried the alligator clips but that kinda sucked.

I bought the dewalt charger on ebay for $10 shipped and gutted it.

just slap the battery in and yer ready to rock. LED light for cool effect....

I also made another pigtail connector with alligator clips for in the shop, If you want to test a bulb or power something DC

I keep saying pigtail but I think technically its an SAE connector...

I’m planning to build a storage tank soon. My idea is to buy a steel pallet and bolt a 50 gallon square steel tank to it. Then outfit it with a rotary hand pump with inline water and particulate filters. I can use the forks to lift it into and out of my truck for filling and then set it down on a wheeled dolly platform in my barn.

I just ordered two sets of the connectors shown below with 12 ga wire. I don't care for the SAE connectors despite having lots of them for the three battery tenders that I use. They're not ideal for connectors that are repeatedly connected and disconnected. I'm not saying that the ones below are perfect either, but they're much easier to connect and disconnect, and they're waterproof, not that it matters much.

I just want an easy way to connect the modified DeWalt battery charger and battery to the pumps of either JohnDow storage tank, while making it easy to also connect the factory alligator clips if needed so that I can connect to a car/truck battery or similar. I like options.

Amazon has different adapters for DeWalt batteries. I have a few of the plain 20V that I've used. I made a nice set of work lights from a trashed tripod and a pair of Maxxima MWL-42 lights and a few odds and ends out of one of those "odds-n-ends" totes in the garage. Another has a "flat two" trailer plug as does one of the spare rooftop amber strobes. Handy if there's a need to mark a dead vehicle or something else without the cig lighter plug.

When I went to look for the listing I found they also offer a 20 to 12V adapter.

I like those - especially after noticing some warming on the one for the diesel pump when it's been running for a while. I assume the 12GA has a higher ampacity than what I've been using. Now the question is how much of my stuff needs mods:(

I chose 12 ga wire because the Italian made pumps in the JohnDow systems are rated at 22 amps, and 12 ga wire can easily handle 25 amps, and it's such a short run between the pump and battery.

I hear ya. I only used the SAE for mutual compatibility.
.

Best connectors I've seen are the German "Deutsch Connectors"
I've owned a few BMW bikes over the years and the wiring/connectors and engineering is heads and tails above Japanese and USA tech.

You can buy these if you look around. Nice waterproof rubber gaskets.
