You might not be using the correct name; try: S-Tine Cultivator, Spring tine cultivator or rolling cultivator.... We didn't use it on virgin food plot (although, I'm sure that would work fine) we used it to flatten and smooth out land. I would NOT classified it as "minimal tillage", it would lay down a very nice flat seed bed with very little remaining weeds / organic matter showing.

Only thing for "minimal tillage" would be my disk, set the disks to run straight as possible and not throw the dirt.... or a Drag Harrow set to minimum.

Thanks for the info. I knew this could be interpreted that way. My playground is in what they call the central sands area in Wisconsin. I’m trying to do minimal tillage to not beat the soil up much. I have a planter but trying to get a seed bed for some of my smaller seed. Just wasn’t a lot of info on these units but has been recommended as an alternative to tilling.

I would guess a seed drill would be all you need to plant, {edit, since they are expensive} I would get a hold of Sand County Foundation and/or google Wisconsin DNR initiatives to see if they rent or cost share planting... not sure if they do food plots vs. if they only do restoration projects. Good luck...

im in central wi same sandy area ive got a landpride all purpose seeder that does an excellent job of planting small grass seeds in untilled ground. i use it to overseed and seed tilled pasture.

an arena drag is for smoothing sandy or freshly turned ground it would not work well with compacted soil at all especially if it was already established.

A thought.... For sandy soils, and over seeding food plots the ...arena grader... in the link would likely work OK.... Maybe you wouldn't need the full width cutting bar behind the S tines, and I have to believe this type tool is rather expensive...

But if it works the way you need it to.. Pay once, cry once...
Good luck..
