Hello all! I have been lurking for a while and finally joined. There is lots of great info in here, but now I have a question. Last year I bought a MX5400. 2wd, gear driven, simple tractor. So far it’s all I will ever need and love it. Upon my purchase I passed on a canopy. I knew there were a lot of options, so I opted to wait. I also wanted to see give myself time to find where I might rip it off on tree limbs. All that has passed. Now I’m looking to purchase. I’m looking at the Rhinohide universal canopy. I like the versatility, it reviews well. My only concerns are coverage. The MX5400 is a pretty big tractor. I’m 6’4” so I sit pretty high in the seat. What are y’all’s take? I use my tractor for managing my hunting place. In and out of trails, fire lanes, etc. I would love to hear anybody’s experience, or opinions on the subject. Pics, would be great also!!! Thanks in advance.

I live near Courtney Scott from Good Works Tractors and he was gracious to let me try one of the Rhinohide canopies out on my M5660. I found it to be too small for my tractor, giving very limited coverage, and opting out of it. I told him if they ever offered a bigger size, I'd be interested but he said at this time they aren't pursuing a bigger one as most folks would go straight to a cab.

My next choice would be the Artillian canopy which IS big enough, but I'm held back by the price...over $700.

Good day.

I have an artillian XL on an MX. I think it’s an appropriate size for the machine. As to height, I am but 6’ so I can’t really say much on what is acceptable. I would say the artillian is intended to mount on top and close to the rops…not sure there would be a good way to effectively lift it higher. But you know how tall the rops is and if that is appropriate for you when standing.

As far as the functionality it really is as simple and quick as the video to take on off or put on over the rear if using a BH or something. IMO I still think it a handful on a windy day to take on and off. (It helps to have someone standing on the ground to hand it to/from). But I like being able to take on / off before hauling machine on trailer or if I am going to be playing in the woods off the trail.

I delayed buying a canopy due to price, but now that I have it, I wish I had it sooner. It was not cheap but it is worth it mowing a pasture, finishing in the rain, or doing work in hot weather where it’s nice to have some shade for a water break.

it was packaged / protected very well as received and installation was very simple. If you have a light bar on your rops that is maybe another consideration to consider which brand and mount set up for your situation. I have a light bar and the artillian fit just fine with my light on and doesn’t seem to impact the light pattern the way I was able to mount it.

good luck.
