Hello,

I have a Kubota L4300DT that I damaged the tie rod threads while removing them to replace the seal on the front axle housing. I removed the castle nut and reversed it, placing it flush with the stud end, and then I whacked it with a hammer. Well, it damaged the threads anyway. If I had to do it again, I would leave a couple of threads exposed, wrap a punch with electrical tape (to protect the threads) , and then hammer the punch. I ended up using a fork, but my boots were already needing replacement.

This is the part number: 36330-62750. The threads are measuring 0.542" or 13.80mm. I need to find the correct thread die. Are they 9/16" or 14mm? Thank you.

I verified that the thread is 14mm - 1.5 with a bolt at a hardware store, purchased a nut, and threaded the nut back and forth until the threads smoothed out. They have to have really clean threads, so that the castle nut goes on smoothly. Otherwise, the tapered stud spins in the taper while trying to tighten the nut. From now on, I'll be using a punch or a fork to remove tie rod ends depending if the boot is already damaged.

Get a metric thread file. I had both standard and metric in my toolbox at work and they do work pretty good. Not as well as the right size die for that shaft but they do get the job done. In case you didn't know they are four sided and have eight different thread sizes you can work with.
