Well, I guess that would make sense with the males facing up. I can see where the caps pop off with engine vibration and working. The female caps seem to lock in nicely with a groove for the locking balls.

Thank you for the detailed response! I ended up taking the safe route and purchasing a set of females from my local dealer, having a short hose made and then putting the mating implement fitting on it. Worked like a charm for the disc mower I hooked up.
