I’ve done a lot of welding on work trucks over the years, and certainly not one has ever had the ECM/TCM/PCM unplugged or removed. Remove the battery cables, keep the ground clamp in the work area, and you’ll be fine. No need to over complicate it.

Helplessly watched from 200’ away as an apprentice unhooked the latch on a gooseneck, and drove a 12,000 pound skid steer off the trailer. Was quite painful watching that trailer go into rocket-takeoff mode before slamming down on the truck it was previously hooked to. Trailers are hard.

I’d want that too, but it seems like your options are going to be limited here. It is at the very least worth a shot. Would get ya up and running while you research a more long-term solution.

What kind of pressure is run in that return line? I don’t think its gonna be more than a few PSI. Stick a hose on it with a small hose clamp, and test for leaks with the unit running. Might find out it’s not ideal, but holds for its intended purpose.

The dealer technically has their hands tied, as they can’t perform any work that would cause the engine output to climb above 25hp. Sounds like they are changing the injection timing, which is a popular modification on that particular engine. If you don’t like the smoke on a cold start, have...
