Your choice. I use synthetic in all my equipment from cars to tractors. That's just my preference. Never tried to push it on anyone. My tractor, my choice.

I had the same problem with my BX2230. It needed a new steering cylinder. Problem solved.

OK, it appears to be optional for BX series. If I lived in a very dusty area I'd probably install it. But seeing that cutting grass and snow blowing are my main objectives, I'll quit worrying about it. Thanks to all who responded and cleared this up for me.
