Just to close out this tread. I have repaired the issues. I appreciate all the help I got. No damage to me or the tractor. The shifter knob came off with a wrench and hammer. A few taps and off it came.

Thanks for that. So these are glue fit or just friction? has anyone installed one. The reverse would be to glue on if loose, compress on if tight. if I blacken an eye on removal I’ll attach a pic.

Thanks for the assist. That K-Pad is the ticket. im now checking out the removal of the #66711-42310 GRIP, LEVER Maybe it’s easy but if anyone’s up for a chat about.

Does anyone know where I can find info regarding the seal at the gear shifter. The boot is damaged but I would assume there must be a seal that is also not sealed. It’s gear driven not hydrostatic. I have a repair manual but it only covers the hydrostatic transmission.
