I finally got a chance to get out to the shop and take a look at the tractor- you folks nailed it! the belt was quite loose, no wonder it wasn't working. I'm a diesel newbie, I would have never thought the alternator is the where the tachometer gets it signal from. Thanks for the help!!

New member here, I have a BX24 (2007 I believe) that has been a great little rig for the last 4 years. Recently, when I start it, I hear a squealing noise under the hood and the tachometer will only indicate 600 rpm regardless of engine speed. Occasionally, it will "catch" and start reading...
