    B7100 Rebuild

I finsihed the rebuild on my B7100 and drove it for about 15 minutes today. Smoked quite a bit on start up but after a couple of minutes there was almost no smoke. Ten minutes later no smoke unless I was going slow and pushed the throttle to wide open. A puff of smoke and then it would clear...

    B7100 Rebuild

I am reassembling my B7100 engine (liners, pistons, rings, bearings, cylinder head) and did a compression test on #1 cylinder while the engine is still on my bench and was very disappointed with the reading of 240# on Cyl. #1. This seemed very low to me so I did a leakdown test on all 3...

Time for a cam and lifters?

Good point! I'll just reuse as is.

Time for a cam and lifters?

Dan, thanks for your reply. I did see your info on the crown and the taper on the cam so I'll leave them alone. I would normally go the route of having a shop make everything right but I've got too much invested in this "project" and as it will have about 5 hours a year run-time I'm going to...

Time for a cam and lifters?

Thanks, that's what I'll do. Would you try to remove some more of the scratches on the bottom of the lifter?

Time for a cam and lifters?

Misters Torch, North Idaho Wolfman, Old Hokie, Runs With Scissors and hagrid I'm sorry for not getting back with you but I didn't get notification or your responses in my email account. Don't know what's up with that! I've read all of your responses as well as reading on-line regarding cams and...

Time for a cam and lifters?

Dan, Refacing is probably a very good option, especially if the cam is okay. It may be the best solution. I don't know why I couldn't replace just one but it seems like the conventional wisdom on the web is to repalce all of the lifters. I think refacing might be the most economical route. Time...

Time for a cam and lifters?

Torch, Yes, I know which hole the lifter came from. That lobe doesn't have any scratches on it. Would I compare the measurement to other lobes to see if they are wearing evenly or see if it is in spec per the manual or maybe both? Thanks, Larry

Time for a cam and lifters?

I'm cleaning parts in preparation to reinstalling them on my B7100 / D750. Attached are (2) pics of lifters. Five of the six lifters look fine but one doesn't look good. My recollection is that you can't replace one lifter, you replace all of them and also replace the cam. Do you have any...

    D750 Main Bearing Carrier Bolts

Thanks for the information. I'll make some calls tomorrow and hopefully I'll find six.

    D750 Main Bearing Carrier Bolts

I've searched for any specs for those bolts and don't find any info. The web says that TTY bolts were first used in the mid 80's. My tractor is an 1984 so not sure. Mr. Wolf says that they are not one time use bolts which sounds right due to the tractors age. All 6 of the bolts felt odd while...

    D750 Main Bearing Carrier Bolts

Mr. Hokie, I'm 78 YO and if memory serves correctly I think I can recall tightening at least one bolt or maybe two, maybe..... :) Anyway, I removed the bolts from the carrier and the bolt that won't torque is stretched, photo is attached. I'll replace all six and hope that the female threads...

    D750 Main Bearing Carrier Bolts

Wolfman's comments makes sense, I think I'm being too cautious. I'll do a mock-up on my vise and torque a couple of bolts to 22# and see what if "feels" like when the torque wrench clicks before going back to the engine. I'll report back. Thanks. Larry

    D750 Main Bearing Carrier Bolts

Dan, I am referring to the bolts that connect the two bearing halves that encase the crank bearings. Are you referring to the single bolt that locates the main crankshaft carrier bearings in the block? Larry
