    Hey folks, thanks for your help. I am not only chased by the wolves..but they caught and ate me. It was a bearing issue with the tractor not cranking. Replaced top and bottom bearings on connecting rods #3 and #2 cylinder, torqued everything to specs.. reassembled..ran beautiful, smooth quiet...

    I will recheck connections, everything started fine prior to pulling piston and replacing head gasket but things change. No water in the oil when I drained it this time. Bearings look ok. I have not rechecked valve clearance since first setting, just pulled rocker arms to see if that allowed...

    Ok, back again. Cylinder head gasket was blown. Damaged #3 piston. I replaced piston, new rings, honed cylinder wall, all piston moved freely. Replaced head gasket, adjusted valves, reassembled everything; turned key, got clunk. No starter power. Charged battery, jumped; starter turned engine...

    Thanks for the reply; actually it is a coolant line, runs by/through oil filter. I lost coolant but no oil. Still could be a bearing though, hadn't considered that. Never had an indication oil pressure dropped. Of course I did not have an overheat indication either.
