Why do I always have too learn the hard way?

The very first thing I did when I moved back to Maine on my last tour before retiring from the Navy (Naval Base 5 miles from the house, work 3 miles...) was buy a tractor. After using my Father-in-law's John Deere 750 compact, I bought one just like it with a Wood bush hog and a Howard Tiller...

Oh, yeah. Several usually, during/after an extended bar crawl through downtown Angeles. I was stationed at Clark Air Base 1970/71. Nineteen year old kid and the only thing cheaper than the beer was the wimmins. Thought I'd died and gone to heaven...

I'd divide it a little differently, but don't want to get into politics. Let's just say everything South of Augusta is a bit different...

    biggest drawback to hoarding steel

You guys suck. Sadly, I could move my stash in a morning. In a pickup. A half-ton...

    Are y'all enjoying

Absolutely NOT! The only thing I hate worse than heat is heat with humidity. Got to 96° here yesterday, and I can spit in the Atlantic Ocean with a following breeze. Grandson said it got to 112° where he lives inland a hundred miles. Fut dat. Marginally cooler today, but grocery shopping...

During my time in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club, I spent time in Virginia, the Philippines, Florida and South Carolina. I don't DO heat and humidity, that's one reason I live in Maine!

Not sure. It was likely from the 20's or 30's, bolt action. Load a round in the chamber, close the bolt, pull a knob on the back of the bolt to cock it, pull and turn to put it on safe.

We may be related...:D I got my very own Winchester Model 12 Featherweight in 20 gauge at around 12 or 13, and an "O3-A3" (Springfield MilSurp 1903, variant A3) in .30-06 when I was old enough to hunt on my own. Of course, they reverted back to Dad when I left for the Navy... Had access to...

Ya know how some married couples have an "Our Song" from their dating days? Well, the Mrs. and I do, it's "Bony Fingers" and it was on one of those table-side juke boxes in a diner! A real, old-fashioned, railroad car-styled diner! Long gone, mores the pity... The only ones I don't have...

Pondering a bit of a dark question

I'd have teared up myself. I was never closer to Viet Nam than Japan and I never did anything even remotely dangerous in my Navy career. Pretty much everything I did or worked with has been obsolete for decades so I can safely say nobody gives a rat about my Navy experiences. As for a "final...

I'm 74, fat, bald, a great-grandfather and been married over 50 years. I ceased giving a rat's rump what anybody else thinks some time ago. It's very freeing.
