Thanks Motorhead, it looks like I have the wrong disc, since yes, the spring hub diameter is too wide (by about 2mm) to sit flush inside the pressure plate. Oh well, at least I didn''t put it all back together wrong... Thanks!

Hi, I'll keep it short, since I have very dirty hands right now :D I have just got around to replacing the clutch on my L185, but I did not take enough notice of which way round the clutch plate was fitted before removing it. The new clutch plate looks slightly different to the one I removed...

Thanks for the responses and the sympathy :) I tried a number of things to get the bolt back in before jiggling levers, including using coathanger wire to try and 'fish' for the hole. But it seems like whatever has gone out of alignment has dropped far enough that there was no hole to be found...
