You can mow in reverse. After you have engaged the blades, press the button to the right of the steering wheel. The light on the button will flash. It will now allow you to mow in reverse until you disengage the blades. I am in the habit of pressing the button right after I engage the blades so...

Just purchased a GR2120 last Wednesday (July 3, 2013) - that machine can climb! It also has a fairly low center of gravity so it also does well sideways on our hills. Love the small diesel engine, and it is quieter than our previous gas mower.
