Bingo! We have a winner. The bolts took about a 1/4 turn using an impact. Thanks for the suggestion and solution. All good now.

My L2900 came with this SMC 2408 loader that seems to work fine. No idea if they are still available new but you do a search on that model anyway And hope to find a used one complete.
