If you don't have one, there's a WorkShop Manual free download for the BX1800/2200 available at KubotaBooks. I think you'll find it useful.

Your issue very likely is not in the HST, it's behind the HST, in the range gear setup.

You need to take it apart and see what gears have gone, gears are not that expensive.
